Old Dutch

Greyed, weathered wood with a naturally aged appearance. Multiple layers of paint and sanded areas create a bohemian character with a relaxed beach vibe.

Old Dutch is our original finish and continues to be one of our most popular finishes. Partly because we have continued to refine this finish over the years.

The colour is neutral and natural, giving the wood a friendly appearance. Never loud, but deliberately calm. The Old Dutch finish is built up from several layers of paint, which are then partially sanded back. This leaves traces of the different layers visible. That layering is what makes the difference and gives the wood its weathered character.

The process also gives the wood a super-matte finish. This contributes to its calm appearance. And precisely because the surface is so matte and natural, Old Dutch works particularly well as a background for accessories with strong colours or shine.

Take a beautiful orange glass, for example. The wooden tray does not compete with the glass. Instead, it creates a calm background that allows the colour and shine of the glass to stand out.

For us, that is exactly the strength of this finish. The wooden home accessories are present, but they do not constantly demand attention. They provide a calm foundation for flowers, glass, art and other home décor.

Old Dutch works beautifully with a bohemian interior, a natural decorating style or a relaxed beach vibe. The matte, greyed appearance adds atmosphere without making the interior feel busy.

And perhaps that is what we have been working towards with this finish all these years: character in the wood, but calm in the overall interior.
